From country house hotels and spa resorts to city hotels, holiday parks and wedding venues, hospitality is where many of our customers work. RotaOne handles split shifts, seasonal demand and weekly payroll, and Musterd accounts for your team when you need to clear the building.
Our case studies include Malmaison & Hotel du Vin, Holiday Inn, The Kronen Collection of boutique hotels and Skene House HotelSuites in Aberdeen. Customers range from Rockliffe Hall and Carden Park to Haulfryn Group’s holiday parks, the Brighton Centre and wedding venues such as Warbrook House and Pendley Manor.
Hospitality trades on people, and its busiest moments are evenings, weekends and summer. Demand shifts with bookings and the weather, teams turn over quickly, and every guest relies on staff who know what to do in an emergency.
Occupancy, covers and functions change week to week, so rotas change late and split shifts are common. Late changes will cost more once the Employment Rights Act 2025 brings in reasonable notice of shifts and pay for short-notice cancellations, expected in 2027.
UKHospitality has repeatedly warned about vacancies and recruitment pressure, especially ahead of the summer season. Constant hiring means new starters, casual and agency staff on every rota, each needing the right training.
Split shifts and late finishes test the Working Time Regulations 1998: 11 hours’ rest between working days and a 20 minute break on shifts over six hours. Holiday for irregular-hours workers can accrue at 12.07% of hours worked, so hours records must be right.
Guests are often asleep and unfamiliar with the building, so fire safety guidance treats sleeping accommodation as higher risk at night, when a small team is on duty. Larger hotels and venues can also fall under Martyn’s Law.
Create shift patterns for days, nights and split shifts, for permanent, agency and temporary workers, and plan staffing and overtime within budget. Hours flow into payroll exports weekly or monthly, across every property you run.
Roll out patterns for days, nights and split shifts across the weeks ahead, then add ad-hoc shifts for weddings, conferences and functions. Drag and drop to move cover between departments, and colour coding shows the week at a glance.
Set departmental budgets, compare planned against actual labour costs and forecast the weeks ahead, so overtime is planned rather than discovered. Costings cover a single hotel, a department or the whole group.
The self-service app gives staff complete oversight of their shifts and the hours they have worked. They pick up unfilled shifts, request overtime and book leave, so a fast-changing team can fill gaps without a round of phone calls.
Clockings from devices or the app become payroll exports in the format and frequency you choose, ready for weekly pay. Leave allowances can be fixed, variable or zero-hours based, and lateness and sickness are tracked alongside.

When the alarm sounds at 3am or halfway through a wedding breakfast, Musterd shows your duty manager in real time which staff are safe, which are unsafe and where they were last seen, on a phone or tablet.
Housekeeping, kitchen, bar and agency staff who clocked in appear on one live roll call. Instant UNSAFE alerts show who has not reached the muster point, and you can text them directly, wherever they are in the building.
Map large grounds, spas, lodges and outbuildings as zones, give each muster point its own team and use what3words to pinpoint locations. Group managers can oversee an incident at any property remotely.
Hotels and venues where 200 or more people may be present at once can fall within the Terrorism (Protection of Premises) Act 2025, with an enhanced tier from 800 and at least 24 months before enforcement. Musterd supports your evacuation procedures and reports on each one.
