Rotas, hours and roll call for aerospace and defence

We work with aerospace and defence manufacturers, from composites specialists to precision engineers, where hours must be evidenced and sites are tightly controlled. RotaOne records the time, and Musterd accounts for everyone the moment an alarm sounds.

The challenges

The pressures on aerospace and defence sites

Long programmes, scarce skills and controlled sites put pressure on how you plan people and how you prove what they did. These are the challenges we hear about most.

  1. 01

    Skilled people are scarce

ADS has described a long-running shortage of skilled workers, and the Royal Aeronautical Society reports that more than half of licensed aerospace engineers in Britain are over 50. Scarce, approved people need to be scheduled where their approvals count.

  2. 02

Labour costs that stand up to scrutiny

Under the Single Source Contract Regulations 2014, costs on qualifying defence contracts are allowable only if they are appropriate, attributable and reasonable. Hours kept on paper or spreadsheets make that case harder to make.

  3. 03

    Working time on round-the-clock lines

Cure cycles, test programmes and delivery dates push overtime. The Working Time Regulations 1998 cap the average week at 48 hours unless a worker opts out in writing, and limit night workers to an average of 8 hours in 24.

  4. 04

    Controlled sites and hazardous processes

List X facilities and restricted areas control who goes where, and resins, solvents and fuels bring DSEAR duties to plan for emergencies and evacuation. When the alarm sounds you need to know who is actually inside.

RotaOne

RotaOne: skilled cover and hours you can evidence

RotaOne plans shifts around the skills each role needs, records every clocking on devices or the app, and turns the hours into payroll and cost reports. One app, one price, with every feature included.

RotaOne time and attendance software illustrated on a laptop, tablet and desktop: reports, a team member clocked in, and the weekly rota
  • Approvals tracked against the rota

Record each person’s skills and qualifications with expiry dates, set minimum levels of key personnel for every shift, and get an under-staffing alert before a line runs short of the right people.

  • Clocking that proves who was there

Facial recognition, fingerprint and RFID devices tie each clocking to the right person. The same cloud-connected devices feed Musterd, so one swipe serves your hours and your roll call.

  • Planned against actual, by department

Compare planned and actual hours and labour costs for individuals, departments or the whole organisation, forecast future costs, and send pre-calculated exports to your payroll system.

  • Overtime offered to the right people

Set departmental budgets and show unfilled shifts in the app, so qualified staff can request the overtime, and managers see the hours each person is building up before they approve it.

The RotaOne features that matter most

Musterd roll call and evacuation app illustrated on two smartphones: the live list of who is safe, and the site map with zones
Musterd

Musterd: everyone accounted for on a controlled site

From the moment an alarm is raised, Musterd shows who is on site, who is off site and who is missing. Marshals work from smartphones, tablets or specialist devices, and every event leaves a report behind it.

  • Live status across every building

Each person is marked safe or UNSAFE in real time. Interactive site maps with zones show where people were last known, so marshals can clear a clean room, test cell or store in order.

  • Help sent where it is needed

Disabled personnel who need assistance are flagged, and anyone still UNSAFE can be sent a text straight from the app, so your responders concentrate on the people not yet at a muster point.

  • Evidence for drills and reviews

Post-event compliance reports show who was accounted for and when, giving your safety and security teams a record for drills, incident reviews and your DSEAR emergency arrangements.
