Workforce and safety for pharma and biotech

We work with contract laboratories, pharmaceutical distributors and packaging suppliers, so we know how qualified roles and controlled areas shape a rota. RotaOne keeps hours and training records straight, and Musterd accounts for everyone on site.

The challenges

What pharma and biotech employers must manage

Good manufacturing and distribution practice put people at the centre of compliance. These are the workforce and safety pressures UK pharmaceutical and biotech organisations face.

  1. 01

Named roles that must be available

Batch certification can only be signed by a Qualified Person, and a wholesale dealer must ensure its Responsible Person is available under the Human Medicines Regulations 2012. Rotas and holiday plans have to keep those roles covered.

  2. 02

    Training must stay current

GMP expects all personnel to receive initial and continuing training relevant to their role, and enough qualified people for every task. Keeping track of who is trained for which area, and when that lapses, is constant work.

  3. 03

Processes that run around the clock

Production runs, studies and distribution often go beyond office hours. Night workers’ normal hours should average no more than eight in each 24, and every shift still needs the right skills on site.

  4. 04

    Controlled areas slow an evacuation

Cleanrooms, gowning areas and restricted labs make it harder to see who is inside, and out-of-hours lone working adds risk. HSE guidance says employers must assess the risks to lone workers. In an alarm, you need to know who is where.

Plan shifts around qualified roles, keep training dates visible and produce accurate hours for payroll. Every RotaOne feature is included in one price.

RotaOne time and attendance software illustrated on a laptop, tablet and desktop: reports, a team member clocked in, and the weekly rota
  • Key personnel on every shift

Assign minimum staffing levels of key personnel and receive under-staffing alerts, so a shift change or a holiday never leaves you without the qualified people you need.

  • Training with expiry dates

Record each employee’s skills and qualifications and set expiry dates, so teams stay fully trained for the areas and equipment they work with, and renewals never take you by surprise.

  • Leave planned around cover

Staff request leave in the app within their allowance, and filtering the rota by department or individual shows where cover is needed before you approve a request.

  • Clocking that matches access

Facial recognition, fingerprint and RFID devices record attendance, and RotaOne’s roll call works with access control and HR systems, giving one reliable record of who was on site.

The RotaOne features that matter most

Musterd roll call and evacuation app illustrated on two smartphones: the live list of who is safe, and the site map with zones
Musterd

Musterd for labs and production sites

Musterd shows, at every moment, who is on site, who is off site and who is missing. Zones on interactive site maps reflect your labs, cleanrooms and warehouses, and marshals work from any device.

  • Zone by zone sweeps

Map cleanrooms, labs and warehouses as zones so marshals can sweep each one and confirm people safe, with anyone not yet accounted for flagged UNSAFE straight away.

  • Lone workers not forgotten

If someone working alone out of hours has not been confirmed safe, Musterd shows their last known location and lets you text them directly to check where they are.

  • Records for your audits

A post-event report captures each evacuation for your safety records, and you can run and oversee roll calls across multiple sites from one place.
